Fiercely rooted in the classics, Juan Carlos Alarcon is creating a career as one of the most exciting conductors. He currently serves as Music Director/Conductor of the Elkhart Community Chorus. In 2021, Juan Carlos made his debut with the South Bend Civic theater in 11 performances of Matilda the musical. Quickly re-engaged, he returned to music direct Disney’s Newsies. Juan Carlos' recent  conducting highlights include Ramirez’s Misa Criolla, Mozart's Missa Brevis in D major, the musicals Something Rotten, the Drowsy Chaperone, and Once upon a mattress. Previous conducting and assistant conducting highlights include Handel’s Messiah, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Cavalleria Rusticana and West Side Story. Born in Puebla, Mexico, Juan Carlos began his musical training as a pianist at an early age and started conducting while still at school. He studied conducting at the University of Notre Dame, where he conducted many performances and was assistant conductor to many conducting students in preparation for their recitals.
