William Powell, III

Mayor

A New Jersey State Opera Alfredo Silipigni Vocal Competition award recipient, William has held principal, supporting, and ensemble roles in operatic and musical theater works including Oklahoma!, Gianni Schicchi, Rigoletto, Otello, Amahl and the Night Visitors, and Washington National Opera’s productions of Appomattox, Götterdämmerung, and Dead Man Walking. Relocating to Los Angeles, William made his LA Opera debut in productions of Don Carlo and La Traviata. In the 2021-2022 season, William made his Lyric Opera of Chicago stage debut in Macbeth, Die Zauberflöte, Tosca, and Fire Shut Up in My Bones. In addition, William made his house and role debut in Long Beach Opera’s production of The Central Park Five. In the 2022-2023 Season, William will appear in Lyric Opera of Chicago’s productions of Ernani, Don Carlos, and Carmen and make his house and role debut as The Mayor in Herman’s TheGift with Indiana’s South Bend Lyric Opera, cover the roles of Don Bayley/Bobby/Prosecutor in Chicago Opera Theatre’s The Life and Death(s) of Alan Turing, and make his company and role debut in Opera Festival of Chicago’s production of Pizzetti’s Assassinio nella Cattedrale as 2nd Tempter and 2nd Knight.
