Oscar Martinez

Baritone Oscar Martinez has performed over 50 operatic roles, including roles Belcore and Dulcamara in Donizetti’s
L'Elisir d'Amore, Escamillo in Carmen by Bizet, Marcello and Shaunard in Puccini’s La Boheme. David in L'Amico
Fritz by Mascagni, Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia by Rossini, Mercutio in Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette, Sharpless in
Madama Buttterfly. He has collaborated with Opera of San Miguel de Allende; South Bend Lyric Opera, Miami Lyric
Opera, and Monterrey Opera.
Mr. Martinez has performed in several Zarzuela with the following roles: Vidal (Luisa of Moreno Torroba ), Juan (Los
Gavilanes by J. Guerrero), Don Diego (Don Gil de Alcalá of Manuel Penella) and Joaquín (The Bunch of Roses by P.
Sorozábal).
He also worked with the world-renowned stage director, Yoshi Oida in the Winterreisse staging of Franz Schubert.
His academic preparation was carried out with private teachers including Oscar Garza, Susan Young and Franco Iglesias, among others.
Mr. Martinez was part of the SIVAM program, where he obtained the Plácido Domingo scholarship in the years 1998
and 1999. He made his debut in 1999 at the Palacio de Bellas Artes singing Carmina Burana with the National Dance
Ballet.
